10 of the Best Venue Packages For a French Wedding

Whilst a destination wedding does look pretty idyllic and much more reliable on the weather front than the UK, they can also be a little daunting if you don’t speak the language or really know where to start. Luckily lots of venues are aware of this and often aim to be fluent in English and provide suitable wedding packages making them more of a one stop shop.

1. Chateau de Maulmont

Surrounded by 22 hectares of parkland with views over the Allier Valley, the pretty Chateau de Maulmont is nestled in the countryside of the Auvergne region, otherwise known as the land of the Volcanoes. Host your ceremony outside or under the pergola with views over the lake for up to 140 guests and then celebrate with a wedding breakfast in the wood-panelled Banqueting Room that can seat up to 70 guests. If you need space for extra, they can also attach a custom made marquee that’s able to seat 70 further guests. The venue has plenty of other rooms available too, including an adjoining bar that can be used as a dance floor and a dedicated nursery room that can hold up to 30 children. It’s an ideal venue to have lots of guests staying, with the ability to sleep up to 64 guests in 16 rooms, 3 suites, 2 apartments along with 6 people staying in the holiday cottage within the domain. 2. Chateau Challain 

With a motto that translates as ‘where the fairytale begins’, the ethereal Chateau Challain is a magical venue in the Loire Valley that feels like something out of Beauty and the Beast. It’s American owner Cynthia takes real care of the venue and the proof is in the pudding, with it having just recently been voted 1 of the 10 best places to get married in France. Host your ceremony in the impressive church located next door to the Chateau and your reception in the main house, set with spiral staircases, wood carved furniture and eccentric taxidermy including a bull, a giraffe and foxes.

3. Chateau d’Argent 

Nestled within the Provençal vineyards close to the French Riviera, Chateau d’Argent is a picturesque and quintessential French chateau, with shutters in lavender hues and a honey coloured façade that is ideal for a laid-back yet elegant wedding. Enjoy your wedding ceremony and reception either outside or in the Reception Hall that can host up to 140 of your guests. The venue is also home to a small chapel, tennis court, helipad and outdoor pool enabling you to tailor your wedding and the day to exactly your preferences. The chateau can sleep up to 26 guests across 12 bedrooms, so lots of space for your nearest and dearest to stay for the wedding weekend.

4. Chateau du Puits es Pratx

Located in one of the sunniest areas of France, the Chateau is surrounded by beautiful vineyards as it was formerly home to a large producer of wines - you’ll see nods to this throughout the venue. Hold your ceremony in the scenic vineyard or in the local church that can host Catholic and Protestant weddings for up to 300 people. Enjoy pre-dinner nibbles and champagne in the formal gardens in front of the Chateau, followed by dinner in the magical fountained courtyard covered in lots of lovely fairy lights and candles. Celebrate into the evening in their characterful barn where the wine press has been cleverly converted into a wedding bar. The venue can sleep up to 50 guests with plenty of other accommodation nearby and is also home to a large heated pool and two spas.

5. Chateau du Grand Val 

Just a short drive from the Brittany beaches, Chateau du Grand Val sits atop the hill, like it is on its own little island. The 15th century chateau is surrounded by a 65 acre park with lots of lovely lush vegetation, blooming hydrangeas, a river, ponds and pretty views across the valley. Host your wedding reception in the chapel on the grounds that can seat up to 50 people followed by dinner in the Reception Hall, an 18th century Cider House complete with oak beams and crystal chandeliers. The reception space can seat 75 but they can also put up an additional adjoining marquee that enables you to seat 125 guests in total. The venue can sleep up to 35 people within the house and in their cute Brittany style cottages, and has a heated pool which your guests will love. The owners also handily speak fluent English and have been hosting weddings for over 14 years, so really know their stuff.

6. Chateau Severin 

Tucked within the Dordogne, Chateau Severin is a grand yet homely and cosy feeling 19th century French castle that has been sympathetically restored. Owned by English couple Sarah and Rupert, they decided to start their own wedding venue after tying the knot in the Dordogne themselves. Their lovely chapel can seat up to 100 guests for a wedding blessing or alternatively there are Catholic and Protestant churches nearby. The venue can host an intimate 30 guests inside or between 30 to 100 guests in a marquee within the grounds, with the ability to sleep 27 of them within the house too.

7. Chateau Beloire 

Located in the well-loved Loire Valley, Chateau Beloire is a grand yet homely wedding venue that started it’s days as a wedding venue on Escape to the Chateau DIY! With a beautiful 17th century façade and surrounded by moats, it’s a magical wedding venue with lots of beautiful spaces. Host your ceremony in the chapel fit with stained glass that creates such a lovely and romantic dappled light. Previous couples have used this space either for their ceremony or alternatively as a nightclub - the choice is yours! You can also host your ceremony in the formal French gardens, in the enchanting woodlands or in the traditional Pigeonnier. Celebrate with up to 150 of your nearest and dearest in the Banquet Hall and carry on all the eating the next day with a restorative BBQ by the pool. The venue can sleep up to 60 guests across 20 apartments and has it’s own in-house chef.

8. Chateau de Montpezat

Located on the edge of the River Garonne at the foothills of the Pyrenees mountains, Chateau de Montepezat is a graceful and peaceful 16th century venue tucked away within 45 acres of forests and woodlands. You can host your wedding ceremony within the picturesque grounds of the venue or within the Catholic church nearby, followed by a wedding dinner either in the farmhouse or in the courtyard. The venue has a lovely pool area that is prettily surrounded by an orchard and it can sleep up to 20 of your guests.

9. Chateau Capel 

Located within the vines of Cognac, Chateau Capel is a cool venue that strikes the right balance between French traditional character and contemporary chic. As soon as you enter the venue, you’ll be welcomed by a beautiful floating spiral staircase at the entrance and lots of cosy and mellow Little Greene colours. Originally featured on Escape to the Chateau DIY and with a fantastic wedding planner, the flow of the day feels lovely and easy at this venue. Host your ceremony within the church in the village or in the park of the estate followed by pre-dinner cocktails on the sunny terrace. Enjoy dinner in the stone barn or outside beneath strings of fairy lights hanging between the trees.

10. Chateau Plombis 

Built using local honey-coloured sandstone and framed by huge ancient Cedars and specimen trees, Chateau Plombis is a beautiful quintessential French venue with incredible views. Make the most of these by hosting your ceremony outside in the woodland area followed by dinner in the long covered gallery that used to the old stables, decked out with a romantic ceiling of fairy lights. Celebrate after dinner in the beautiful Orangerie with impressive large windows and a glamorous bar area, and the next morning rest those weary feet by the pool with a BBQ, or for the more energetic, play a spot of tennis on the courts! The venue can sleep up to 36 guests and has a wonderful in-house wedding planning team who have proudly organised over 300 weddings there.
