It’s a great way for all your guests to get to know each other, simple for everyone to get to bed after a night out and perfect for you planning any activities around the main wedding day.

  1. Chateau Maulmont

Surrounded by 22 hectares of parkland with views over the Allier Valley, the pretty Chateau de Maulmont is nestled in the countryside of the Auvergne region, otherwise known as the land of the Volcanoes. Host your ceremony outside or under the pergola with views over the lake for up to 140 guests, and then celebrate with a wedding breakfast in the wood-panelled Banqueting Room that can seat up to 70 guests. If you need space for extra, they can also attach a custom made marquee that’s able to seat 70 further guests. The venue has plenty of other rooms available too, including an adjoining bar that can be used as a dance floor and a dedicated nursery room that can hold up to 30 children. It’s an ideal venue to have lots of guests staying, with the ability to sleep up to 64 guests in 16 rooms, 3 suites, 2 apartments along with 6 people staying in the holiday cottage within the domain. Plus there are also nearby yurts and B&B’s for the rest of your guests to stay in. The next day, make the most of the lovely indoor pool, sauna and golf range to soothe those weary heads.

2. Chateau Beloire

Located in the well-loved Loire Valley, Chateau Beloire is a grand yet homely wedding venue that started it’s days as a wedding venue on Escape to the Chateau DIY! With a beautiful 17th century façade and surrounded by moats, it’s a magical wedding venue with lots of beautiful spaces. Host your ceremony in the chapel fit with stained glass that creates such a lovely and romantic dappled light. Previous couples have used this space either for their ceremony or alternatively as a nightclub - the choice is yours! You can also host your ceremony in the formal French gardens, in the enchanting woodlands or in the traditional Pigeonnier. Celebrate with up to 150 of your nearest and dearest in the Banquet Hall and carry on all the eating the next day with a restorative BBQ by the pool. The venue can sleep up to 60 guests across 20 apartments and has it’s own in-house chef.

3. Arielles Chateau de la Messardière

99 bedrooms

Suspended in the hills with a 180 degree view of the Mediterranean, the impressive 5* Chateau de la Messardière dates back to the 19th century, with its history woven into the fabric of St Tropez and French folklore. The venue was the place to stay during the roaring twenties and recently underwent a glamorous transformation, with it being completely reworked for Summer 2021. Host your wedding within their ornate salon rooms and meticulous gardens or in their impressive range of on-site restaurants. There are 99 rooms for your guests to stay within along with the hotel having it’s own private beach too.

4. Villa Belrose

Overlooking the bay of St Tropez, the luxury 5* Villa Belrose hotel is inspired by a Florentine Villa and has a classic and welcoming atmosphere. Set within 9,000 square metres of grounds featuring lovely pine trees and landscaped gardens, the wedding venue has plenty of spaces in which to host your wedding, along with 40 guest rooms available. It’s home to lots of little luxuries such as a gourmet restaurant and pool restaurant, heated 200 square metre pool and premium beauty centre.

5. Hotel Cap Estel

Located on it’s very own two-hectare peninsula jutting out into the mediterranean sea, Hotel Cap Estel is in a really unique spot within the area. With 3 out of 4 sides of the venue being surrounded by water, you’ll get impressive panoramic views on your wedding day and beautiful photos too. The hotel was originally built in 1899 and is set amongst lush greenery and trees, creating a lovely quiet oasis. It has accommodation spread across four floors and can seat up to 70 of your guests.

6. Chateau La Chevre d’Or

Ranking number one on the Conde Nast Traveller Top 20 Hotels in France and Monaco, Chateau La Chevre D’Or is a real treat for your guests. They have an abundance of spaces in which to host your wedding, from their panoramic terraces to their beautiful gardens and reception rooms - it’s perfect for a smaller wedding with the ability to host up to 80 guests. For dinner, you can take advantage of their impressive culinary skills, with their on site restaurant La Chevre D’Or being the recipient of 2 Michelin stars. Located in the heart of the medieval town of Eze, the hotel has 39 bedrooms, with some of them originally being village homes that Walt Disney himself encouraged them to turn into hotel rooms in the 1950s. In between events, be sure to stroll around the stonewalled grounds and take in the impressive collection of art installations, topiaries and fountains.

8. Domaine De Manville

30 rooms and suites

A 5 star hotel nestled in the valley below Les Baux, known to be one of the loveliest hilltop medieval villages in France, Domaine De Manville sits within an enormous 100 acres estate and originally functioned as a working farm. With the main building surrounded by olive trees, wild herbs and lots of leafy grounds, you can expect the warm and welcoming domaine to include elegant interiors, a large light filled spa, a fitness room along with an 18 hole golf course and pool in the grounds. It can also house a number of your guests across its 30 rooms and suites, and 9 villas. With a beautiful courtyard and large, architecturally striking glasshouse forming one of the many reception areas to choose from, Domaine De Manville is a wonderful wedding location for when you want to host all your guests on site in a truly luxurious space.

9. Chateau Les Carrasses

30 suites

Chateau les Carrasses is a beautiful turreted building, set within vast grounds that can sleep up to 124 guests across 30 suites, cottages and flats, with some of the larger properties even having their own private pools and gardens. Approached via a quintessentially french tree lined driveway, framed by vineyards, forestland and with the Pyrenees in the distance, the venue has a modern and classic french interior, that feels luxurious yet homely. Your ceremony can take place in the local church, the gardens, or by the lovely glass garden house, which was supposedly built by Gustave Eiffel, of Eiffel Tower fame! The reception will then follow either on the main terrace or within a marquee set by the pool, with the opportunity to take the evening party into the atmospheric wine cellar, where you can party well into the evening.

10. Chateau St Pierre De Serjac

36 self catering villas

Surrounded by luscious rolling vineyards, Chateau St Pierre de Serjac, a restored 19th century manor house turned hotel is located in the popular Montpellier. The chateau has its own working winery and around the main chateau all the smaller original buildings have been converted into small self catering villas, providing the ideal accommodation for your guests. There are eight rooms within the main chateau and a further substantial 36 self catering villas across the grounds. The Chateau is also home to a large outdoor heated infinity pool, Hammam spa, saunas and hydrotherapy pool, with plenty of beautiful French countryside surrounding the property for lovely walks and bike rides on the days around your wedding. Following the ceremony, you’ll be able to enjoy a delicious buffet lunch on the terrace by the swimming pool and then dance well into the evening in their wine cellar. On the following day, you can host a relaxing pool party and BBQ feast, to help recover any sore heads.

11. Chateau Perigourdin

Sleeps 60 across bedrooms, apartments and cottages

Perched upon the top of a mountain with views over the Dordogne river, Chateau Perigoudin’s location is pretty hard to beat. In terms of style, it feels like a combination between a grand chateau and a quaint country farmhouse, making it feel like a homely and intimate place to get married. The options for where you get married are plentiful - with a chapel in the grounds, their Garden a la Française that’s home to lots of roses and fruit trees, and even a woods that features a cave sheltering a statue of the Virgin Mary with views over the Dordogne River. The reception can be held inside for under 130 guests in the connecting lounges or outside in the garden facing the valley. For over 130 guests, they recommend choosing a marquee within the grounds. Plus your next day plans are sorted, with a lovely pool, kitchen and BBQ areas that’s perfect for a hungover brunch after the wedding.

It has the ability to host a whopping 500 people, making it one of the largest capacity venues on this list. It can also sleep up to 60 people in the grounds, 32 people across the 14 bedrooms in the chateau, 4 people in an apartment, 8 people in a cottage and 15 people in the two farmhouses opposite. 12. Chateau Saint-Martin

Last but certainly not least is the stunning Chateau Saint-Martin on the French Riviera, steeped in history and we can imagine so many glamorous tales too. You have the option of getting married within their 12th century chapel on site, followed by the reception either amongst the shady olive groves or in one of eight different event spaces they have for you to choose from. Prepare to be impressed by the food, which will be cooked by their Michelin starred restaurant as you gaze out across the beautiful sea views.

The chateau hotel has 52 suites, so there is plenty of space to have all your guests stay. Whilst you and your guests are there, be sure to take advantage of the wine tastings available, the spa and the gorgeous garden infinity pool.

13. Hotel Les Roche Rouge

67 rooms and suites

This fifties waterfront retreat is the epitome of effortless cool, the laidback French girl of the hotel world if you will. With an easy going and natural style right on the water, the whole place is inspired by the shimmering cobalt blue med and the auburn orange rocks. With the ability to host up to 60 guests, the hotel can be exclusively yours for the evening, with a private beach where you can exchange your vows and a floating bridge for your guests. Your ceremony will then be followed by a meal on the terrace, looking directly out to the shimmering sea. There are plenty of elegant and comfortable rooms for your guests to stay in, including a sea view suite for the newlyweds to stay in, with the always lovely extra of a champagne breakfast in bed. The hotel is renowned for its breathtaking 30 metre saltwater pool that is carved out of the rocks below, spilling out into the sea. We would strongly recommend nabbing one of the beds that surround it the day after the wedding, and ordering aperitifs to nurse any hangovers.

14. Village Castigano

21 bedrooms

A venue full of quirk that feels like a nice nod to the Wes Anderson aesthetic, Village Castigno describes itself as ‘bohemian, countryside and always chic’. Situated right in the middle of the Saint-Chinian wine country, the place buzzes with life and happiness. It consists of three impressive restaurants, a spa, a busy café and rooms dotted amongst original stone townhouses and stables. The owners Tine and Marc Verstaete are originally from Belgium, with Tine’s passion for design learned over a lifetime of working in film production. Village Castigno is a clever mix of a relaxed and lively atmosphere with food that packs a punch (and is tipped to be getting a Michelin star). Prepare for it to be an unplugged wedding as the hotel purposefully has no wifi, so your guests can truly enjoy the moment. For in and around the wedding, hire scooters to tour around the local vineyards, get creative in the nearby ceramic studio or taste some of the chateau’s organic wine.

15. Domaine Le Mezo

Sleeps 240

Located in Morbihan in Southern Brittany, the sprawling 18th century Domaine Le Mezo is designed in the spirit of a beautiful family home, surrounded by 25 hectares of parkland. The venue has over 2000 square metres of event space, including their elegant Grand Hall that can host up to 350 guests for a sit down dinner. Their Grand Greenhouse can host drinks receptions of up to 190 guests and their al fresco Safari Tent that can host up to 400 seated guests. They can also host more intimate weddings of up to 40 guests throughout a number of spaces in the main house.

The venue is able to sleep an impressive 240 guests across 8 houses, 3 lofts and 70 bedrooms.

16. Chateau de Pondres

24 bedrooms

Surrounded by a 15 hectare park atop a verdant hill, Chateau de Pondres is a classic 12th century building that has been lovingly restored for over a decade. Host your ceremony in their pretty French Garden with up to 200 guests, followed by a reception in one of their elegant dining rooms or on the terrace La Cour d’Honneur for a fully al fresco wedding, with a late license until 3am. The venue can sleep up to 55 guests across 24 relaxing, generously sized bedrooms, has a lovely outdoor swimming pool, wellness area including a hammam and sauna, and an on-site restaurant.

17. The Village

Sleeps 180 guests across 32 cottages

An ideal venue for a full on house party style wedding, The Village is made up of barns, pretty courtyards, renovated stone cottages, it’s own golf course, 3 tennis courts, lots of swimming pools and a licensed bar and restaurant to create a real ‘village’ feel, as the name suggests. Host a ceremony and reception for up to 170 guests seated with multiple spaces to choose from both inside and out, and sleep up to 180 guests within their cottage accommodation. The venue is fully staffed, and also benefits from a sports barn, private cinema, play areas and nanny and creche services if you have children in attendance.

18. Domaine du Grand Lauron

Nestled in Provence and surrounded by 11 hectares of lush landscapes, Domaine du Grand Lauron is a beautiful spot with a chic yet laidback atmosphere. Exchange your vows on a wooden pontoon on the shores of a lake with up to 150 guests, followed by cocktail hour beneath the fruit trees and a candlelit dinner in the courtyard. The venue can sleep up to 37 guests so perfect for a more intimate wedding, where you can all enjoy each other’s company the next day with a relaxed brunch by the lake or poolside.
