Emily and Sam’s Chic, Modern Wedding at Els Calderers Mallorca
Taking place at the idyllic and peaceful spot of Els Calderers in Mallorca, Emily and Sam’s wedding beautifully marries relaxed al fresco style with a chic and modern feel. Starting the day getting ready at the picturesque Hotel Nixe Palace with beautiful views out to sea, the couple were able to spend a relaxed day with their nearest and dearest before their chic ceremony in the late afternoon. Wearing a stunning Made With Love strapless A line gown teamed with a pretty applique floral veil, Emily accompanied by her bridesmaids in silky sorbet toned dresses, met Sam at the end of the aisle to say ‘I Do’. Kitted out in beige suits, slightly unbuttoned shirts and brown suede shoes, Sam and his groomsmen struck the perfect balance of formal yet relaxed.
With cool curved rose gold signage and modern floristry design setting the tone of the day, guests then made their way onto the gorgeous evening reception. Greeted by a cocktail hour featuring canapés inspired by the diversity of the guests, paired with wine, beer and limoncello, they basked in the sunshine before enjoying an evening of delicious food, fun speeches and laidback moments under romantic festoon lighting.

HOW WE MET
“We met on Hinge - a true modern fairytale. After a few exchanges Sam asked me out for a date, scheduled for the following week. Lo and behold, the government announced the 2nd Covid lockdown the day our date was meant to happen! Sam then messaged me and asked if we could move it a day earlier, beating the lockdown by a day.”
GETTING READY
“We got ready at the Hotel Nixe Palace - it overlooks the sea, and is just so relaxing. It was the perfect place to get ready. As the ceremony started around 5pm, Sam and I actually had a very relaxed and slow morning getting ready with breakfast and coffee. I then went to meet my bridesmaid and make up artist Ala, and the whole experience was so lovely.”
THE ENGAGEMENT
“We got engaged in September 2023 - it was during our trip to Japan, where we visited the island of Yakushima. The island is a famous UNESCO World Heritage Site and known for having one of the oldest trees in the world (Jomon Suji - 7000 years old!) After a 4am wakeup call, we set off on our 8 hour (total hike) to see the tree! It was deep in this magical, moss covered forest and when we finally reached the tree, Sam proposed in front of the tree that signifies everlasting love.”
THE VENUE
“I had always wanted to marry somewhere like the Tuscan mountains, the moment we stepped foot into Els Calderers - it evoked the same feeling. The views, the mountains surrounding it and how peaceful it felt, we knew it was the perfect venue for us.”

THE CEREMONY
“The ceremony was incredible - it took place at 5pm, so we had the afternoon sun shining on us. We had a celebrant (Kerry-Anne) who wrote the ceremony script and vows together with us. We wanted the overall style of the ceremony to be more of a story, relaxed and even funny at parts. It perfectly encapsulated how we wanted our wedding to be.”
THE OUTFITS
“I got my dress from Made with Love Bridal - I had actually gone into the appointment with another dress in mind, but when I tried on “Florence”, it just felt right, especially when MWL confirmed they could alter and personalise the dress to my style. I wore earrings and a gold bracelet from my mum as my “something borrowed”. Sam had his suit custom made back in Hong Kong, where I am originally from - adding a touch of home to the special day!”
COCKTAIL HOUR
“Our catering and event planner was Tot a Punt - who were amazing every step of the way. Our cocktail reception had 10-12 different canapé options, from salmon ceviche bites, to goats cheese cornettos, to mini cheeseburgers (for the kids!) Our guests were from all over the globe - and we wanted to make sure our food represented this diversity. We paired this with wine, beers and limoncello shots.”
THE WEDDING DINNER
“Dinner was a sit down 3 course meal, guests could pick their starter and main selection and we selected a tasty chocolate dessert (who doesn’t like chocolate?). This was followed by coffee, tea and more limoncello! The tables were all beautifully decorated with colourful, pastel florals and white and blue pastel candles - which was my theme throughout the whole day. I love lots of colour, and bouquets with lots of varieties of flowers - Tot a Punt worked with a local florist and they absolutely nailed our vision.”
FAVOURITE PART OF THE DAY
“Our favourite part of the day wasn’t a specific event - it was simply just being with each other, in the Spanish sunshine, at our beautiful venue surrounded by our loved ones. Some of our guests had flown over 20+ hours to be there on our day, and getting to spend the day with them was just so lovely. We both feel incredibly lucky and grateful for our family, friends and each other.”
THE SPEECHES
“The speeches were wonderful - the father of the bride spoke, the groom, alongside the groom’s sister, bridesmaid and all three best men! We kept the speeches short and sweet, but we loved hearing from everyone who have been such important people in both our lives and our relationship journey.”
FAVOURITE SUPPLIERS
“We worked with Tot a Punt who were incredible from start to finish in planning the whole day, the decor, food and all the day of coordination. It is always nerve-racking to plan a wedding abroad, especially without a wedding planner - but Bel from Tot a Punt literally always had everything in hand.
Our photographer and videographer Janet and Filip were so incredible! Their style is so unique, both modern but also evoking a feeling of nostalgia in what they produce. It was so easy working with them because I felt they both truly just understood what we both wanted.
We were truly very lucky to have had all the vendors we worked with be absolutely perfect - Ala, my makeup artist made all my bridesmaids, my mum and me feel so beautiful for the day.”
ADVICE FOR FUTURE COUPLES
““Life is too important to be taken seriously” - in summary, life will always have moments of stress, joy, sadness, grief - but we only have one life and one life together. It’s so important to be present, communicate always, and find joy in the little things. All with your partner in life by your side.”
